Lupus clinical trials have a problem: they have historically struggled to recruit people who accurately reflect the patient demographic. For example, Black people account for 43% of prevalent SLE cases, but only 14% of trial participants. So how could we help our client drive representation? Our research showed that certain social media channels (such as Snapchat) would be key. So, we worked with a panel of people with SLE from under-represented aroups to develop messaging and visuals that fit seamlessly into these fast-moving landscapes. From meme-like language to playful bespoke photography that accurately represented SLE patients. And although there was no precedent for the use of Snapchat in clinical trial recruitment, we worked closely with the platform to ensure efficacy.
